Congress for the Mission of the Order

The Congress for the Mission of the Order of Preachers begins tomorrow in Rome. I shall participate in it as a Dominican layman from Portugal.

Through the Jubilee Year [of its 800 years], the Order “seeks to renew itself by entering into a dynamic process that culminates in sending the friars to preach anew, just as Dominic sent the first brethren.” And “as we prepare to be sent anew we ask ourselves: By whom we are sent? To whom are we sent? With whom are we sent? What do we bring with us in being sent?” (ACG Trogir, 51).

The Jubilee Year concludes with a Congress that seeks to bring together Dominicans from various regions of the world and from different cultural and ecclesial contexts to reflect and share experiences around the mission of preaching of the Order today. This congress aims to promote and illuminate the mission of the Order through a theological and pastoral reflection on issues that are central to our preaching today.
